Man dies from gunshot wound in busy Gold Coast mall

A 38-YEAR-OLD man has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a shooting range inside a busy Surfers Paradise mall on Sunday night.

Scores of police and paramedics responded to the incident at the Australian Shooting Academy in Cavill Mall, near Time Zone’s Ten Pin bowling alley, around 7pm following reports a man had been fatally injured.

Police last night confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, however said the man died while using a revolver.

A staff member at the complex who witnessed the shooting attempted to restrain the 38-year-old but was unsuccessful.

It’s understood to be the first major incident at the range since it opened more than 15 years ago.

The venue was closed to the public for the remainder of the night.
