UPDATE @ May 26 2019 | A Tweed Heads man will face court charged with murder, after having his charges upgraded following the death of another man in hospital.
Police say the pair, who are known to each other, were part of a larger group of people at a unit on Kennedy Drive in Tweed Heads West when a fight broke out about 6pm on Wednesday 15 May.
It’s alleged a 47-year-old man assaulted 54-year-old Kevin Carney several times.

Emergency services were called and Mr Carney was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
He died a week later.
The 47-year-old man, who was arrested at the scene shortly after the alleged assault, was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Following further inquiries, the man was rearrested on Saturday and had his charges upgraded to murder.
He was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Sunday.
EARLIER @ May 23 2019 | A 54-year-old man has died in hospital, a week after he was allegedly bashed by another man in Tweed Heads.
Kevin Carney was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital with critical injuries after the alleged assault last Wednesday.
Police will allege a 47-year-old man assaulted him several times at a property on Kennedy Drive after the pair got into a heated argument.
The alleged offender was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station before being taken to hospital for injuries of his own.
He has already appeared in court on charges of causing grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He is scheduled to re-appear in court on Monday, May 27.
Investigations in to the incident are continuing.
