Man impaled on steel rod after falling several metres at Sydney building site

A MAN has been impaled on a steel road in a horror workplace accident on Sydney’s North Shore.

The 18-year-old fell several metres at a building site on Willandra Street at Lane Cove just after midday.

The young man landed on a steel reinforcement bar which pierced straight through his leg.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene and a CareFlight doctor was flown in.

The man spent almost two hours impaled on the bar while crews worked to treat him and free him from the position.

He was eventually transported by ambulance to the Royal North Shore Hospital where he remains this afternoon in a stable condition.

Safe Work is investigating.
