Man in serious condition after near-drowning

A MAN has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition following an incident at a beach on the Gold Coast.

The man, believed to be aged in his 50s, was pulled unconscious from the surf at Tugun about 10am on Saturday.

It’s understood bystanders, lifeguards and paramedics worked on the man at the scene before he was taken to hospital.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said the man was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately known.
