Man shot dead by police in confrontation

A MAN has been shot dead by police during an incident at a home in Rockhampton, in Central Queensland.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance at a house in Norman Gardens just after 7pm last night.

When they arrived at the Geoff Wilson Drive home, it’s alleged officers were confronted with a highly agitated man.


While the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known, police said in a statement that officers were forced to draw their guns and shoot the man.

He received life-threatening injuries and sadly could not be saved. Police confirmed the man died at the scene.

Whether or not he was armed at the time is unclear.

The shooting is now being investigated by Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner.
