Teens charged after terrifying burglary ends in fiery crash on Gold Coast

UPDATE @ 11.55 AM | TWO teenagers have been charged after storming a home at Biggera Waters, stealing cars and sparking a police pursuit which ended in a fiery crash at Southport in the early hours of this morning.

The dramatic scenes unfolded just after 1.45am, when a 19-year-old man armed with a knife forced his way into a house on South Quay Drive and demanded cash and car keys from the residents.

Police say two cars were then stolen from the address, with one of the vehicles – a 2018 black Ford Mondeo – spotted by police near Harbour Town shortly after 2am, sparking a pursuit.

Officers said the chase started on Oxley Drive before they tracked the stolen car on Hope Island Road, the Pacific Motorway and Smith Street.

It all came to a fiery end when the vehicle’s engine erupted into flames, forcing the driver to stop at Keebra Park.

Police say the stolen vehicle then rolled into a fence, with the 19-year-old driver taken into custody at the scene.

He’s been charged with burglary and commit indictable offence, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, contravene direction and two counts each of armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Following investigations, officers also arrested a 17-year-old boy at Southport around 9.30am and located the second stolen car.

The teen has since been charged with unlawful use of motor vehicle and receiving tainted property.

EARLIER @ 7.00 AM | A MAJOR manhunt is underway this morning after two people stormed a home at Biggera Waters, stealing cars and sparking a police pursuit which ended in a fiery crash at Southport.

The dramatic scenes unfolded just after 1.45am, when two men – one armed with a knife – forced their way into a house on South Quay Drive and demanded cash and car keys from the residents.

The pair managed to get away with two vehicles, however were tracked down by police near Harbour Town shortly after 2am, sparking a pursuit.

Officers said the chase started on Oxley Drive before they tracked the stolen car on Hope Island Road, the Pacific Motorway and Smith Street.

It all came to a fiery end when the vehicle’s engine erupted into flames, forcing the duo to stop the 2018 black Ford Mondeo at Keebra Park.

Police say the stolen vehicle then rolled into a fence, with one of the men taken into custody at the scene.

The second man remains on the run, with police still searching for another stolen vehicle, a black 2003 Mazda 3 with Queensland registration 779 JVX.

Luckily, no one was injured in the home invasion.
