Search continues for convicted criminal in Gold Coast bushland

UPDATE @ January 17: THE search continues for a notorious bank robber who remains on the run on the Gold Coast.

Brendan Berichon fled into burning bushland near Maudsland after police visited his Pacific Pines home on Tuesday afternoon.

The 41-year-old has not been seen since.


A major search involving the dog squad and polair has been ongoing, however no one has been able to track down the convicted criminal, who is wanted over alleged serious domestic violence offences.

Despite Berichon’s criminal history, Queensland police have stressed that there’s no threat to the community.

The manhunt continues.

EARLIER @ January 16: A major manhunt is continuing in the Gold Coast hinterland today for notorious bank robber Brendan Berichon.

Berichon, who is linked to the infamous “Postcard Bandit” Brendan Abbott, is believed to be on the run in burning bushland at Maudsland.

The convicted criminal, now aged 41, is understood to have fled after police went to his Pacific Pines home on Tuesday afternoon.

He’s wanted over alleged domestic violence offences, however is mostly known for his role in helping Abbott escape from Wacol prison in 1997.

The pair then went on a crime spree which included robbing a number of banks in Queensland before the duo were arrested and jailed.

Residents in the area are being told there’s no threat to the community.
