Man’s finger completely severed in machete attack

A MAN has had his finger completely severed after being repeatedly slashed with a machete at a home in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services were called to the 43-year-old man’s River Avenue unit in Carramar about 5.20am.

Police said the man lost a finger, sustained a severe injury to his left arm and was left covered in extensive cuts after being attacked by another man armed with a machete.

While the man’s injuries are serious, they are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being transported by ambulance to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A crime scene has been established and a search is now underway for the victim’s attacker.

Police are treating the incident as a “targeted attack” and say the two men are known to each other.

Anyone with information that could assist police with their investigation is urged to come forward.
