Massive tree crushes parked car in freak fall, Gold Coast

Residents in Runaway Bay have witnessed shocking scenes over the weekend, after a large tree completely crushed a car.

Luckily, no one was in the vehicle on Bayview Street, when it was destroyed by a palm tree around 4.00pm yesterday.

The damage was so large that fire fighters were called in to control the oil spill from the car.

While road diversions were reportedly in place for over two hours.

It’s understood the huge tree fell due to beetle rot.

Councillor Kristyn Boulton posted the photos to Facebook, and says ‘she’s glad no one was seriously injured’.
