IT was the first dish he ever made, bur Matthew’s lasagne just did not appeal to the judges on MasterChef last night.

The 43-year-old dentist faced off against Sara, Reynold and Jessica in an elimination challenge, with the four amateur chefs required to produce a dish that reminded them of their childhood.

After an emotional two hours in the kitchen, the contestants were ready to serve up their creations to the judges Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris and Marco Pierre White.

Reynold’s chocolate ganache with honeycomb and orange blossom blew the judges away.

Sara’s parsley paddardelle pasta with broccoli sauce was also a hit, but the judges feared it might be too simple.

Jessica spicy prawn broth left the judges divided, with them all loving the flavour of the broth, but not enjoying the fact they had to peel their own prawns.

However, Matthew’s lasagne failed to hit any high notes with the judges, with George saying: ‘There’s no doubt that it’s got a lot of flavour but I think the balance is out’.

He was then sent packing from the MasterChef Kitchen, with the other three contestants safe for another day.
