‘Mercy’ singer Duffy claims she was held captive, raped and drugged

BRITISH singer Duffy has claimed she was “raped and drugged and held captive” in a raw and heartbreaking post on social media.

The 35-year-old, who is best known for the 2008 hit Mercy, took to Instagram to say she was “ok and safe now” but it had taken her a long time to recover.

The Welsh soul singer powered into the spotlight on the back of her debut album Rockferry, which saw her claim a Grammy and her three Brit awards, but has release very little music in the years that followed.

“Many of you wonder what happened to me, where did I disappear to and why,” she wrote.

“The truth is, and please trust me I am ok and safe now, I was raped and drugged and held captive over some days. Of course I survived. The recovery took time.”

The post did not elaborate on the ordeal or the person/s responsible. However, it is expected she will revealed more in an audio interview in the coming weeks.

“Please respect this is a gentle move for me to make, for myself, and I do not want any intrusion to my family. Please support me to make this a positive experience.”
