Mother charged after leaving child in hot car at shopping centre

A MOTHER has been charged with leaving her 15-month-old daughter in a hot car at a shopping centre in Sydney’s south.

Police were called to the Forest Road centre’s carpark at Hurstville about 11.30am yesterday, after members of the public spotted the youngster alone in the vehicle.

Officers were told a woman had parked there at about 10.40am and entered the shopping centre, leaving her daughter inside the car.

The toddler was rescued from the vehicle and assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics. Luckily, she did not require transport to hospital.

The child’s mother, a 39-year-old woman, was charged with leave child/young person in motor vehicle causing emotional distress.

She was granted bail and is due to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday 24 October.

Police confirmed the Department of Family and Community Services have been notified.
