“So today, something in me prompted me to pry open the glue in the kids lunchboxes. I saw a little black spot in the corners while washing,” the mother wrote in the now-viral post.

“This is what I found.”

Posting a photo of her discovery, Ms Bollen revealed that the unseen, sealed part of her children’s lunch boxes had been growing mould.

“I’m absolutely appalled. I feel awful that my children have been eating lunch out of these,” she wrote.

“The children’s lunchboxes have been hand washed each night & left open to dry.”

She continued by advising other parents to avoid buying “any lunchboxes that you can’t clean ALL the parts”

Since posting the photos on August 18, the mother has provided an update revealing that she’s been in contact with the company’s who make the lunch boxes.

“They are working to rectify the problem with the manufacturers & make them water tight,” she wrote.

“Please check with your supplier if there are any issues with yours.”

She also provided a handy tip for parents.

“You can hold up the lighter ones to the light & the mould shows through.”
