Two near-drownings on Gold Coast beaches in as many hours

UPDAT AT 5:25 PM | TWO people have been taken to hospital after almost drowning in the surf at Coolangatta.

The duo got into trouble in the water at Snapper Rocks about 4pm.

They were assessed by paramedics at the scene before being transported in stable conditions to Tweed Heads Hospital.

A third person was also assessed by paramedics but did not require transport.

It was the second near-drowning incident on the Coast in as many hours.

A swimmer was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after almost drowning at Main Beach about 2.30pm.

EARLIER AT 4:40 PM | THREE people are now being assessed by paramedics following a near-drowning at Coolangatta.

Paramedics were dispatched to Snapper Rocks to assess a swimmer who almost drowned in the surf about 4pm.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said paramedics were on the scene assessing one person when two other people requested assistance.

It’s believed they were involved in the same near-drowning incident as the initial patient.

Four ambulance crews were at the scene at the time of writing.

4:30 PM | PARAMEDICS are on the scene of yet another near-drowning on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the water at Snapper Rocks in Coolangatta just after 4pm.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said paramedics were on the scene, assessing a stable patient.

The patient’s gender and age was not immediately known.

It’s the second near-drowning on the Coast in as many hours.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said the patient was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

A second person was assessed at the scene but did not require transported to hospital.

3:00 PM | CRITICAL care paramedics are rushing to the scene of a near-drowning at Main Beach.

One person is in a serious condition and is being treated by paramedics on the beach following an incident in the water off Breaker Street about 2.30pm.

It’s understood the person who helped retrieve the patient from the water is now also being assessed.

The city’s High Acuity Response Unit and critical care paramedics have been called to the scene.

No further information was available at the time of writing.

FIRST AT 2:45 PM | EMERGENCY services are on the scene of a near-drowning at Main Beach.

It happened in the water off Breaker Street at about 2.30pm.

Paramedics and Surf Life Savers are treating a person on the beach.

The patient is believed to be in a serious condition.

Their gender and age was not immediately known.

No further information was available at the time of writing.
