Neighbourhood evacuated as shots fired and people threatened

A USUALLY SLEEPY town, nestled between Tweed Heads and Byron Bay, has been rattled as an alleged gunman began firing shots and making threats towards people.

Locals called Police about 7pm on Saturday, with officers from Tweed/Byron Police District setting up a perimeter around the property in Wilson’s Creek, west of Mullumbimby.

According to Police, they were told “a man had allegedly fired a number of shots and made threats towards several people who were also on the property”.

Several neighbours were evacuated as specialist police resources were called to the location.

About 8.30pm, a 29-year-old man was arrested without incident, and no one else was injured.

A number of firearms, as well as drugs and ammunition were located and seized from the home.

The man has been charged with a raft of firearm offences, with drugs charges also expected.
