New limits placed on alcohol purchases amid coronavirus stockpiling

Woolworths’ liquor stores have introduced new restrictions on alcohol purchases in a bid to stop people stockpiling.

But the limits are still pretty generous.

Both Dan Murphy’s and BWS stores have now imposed limits on wine, beer, cider and spirits.

“These limits are in place to ensure everyone has access to the drinks they love, and we appreciate your understanding during this time,” Dan Murphy’s said.

“These are subject to change at any time and we reserve the right to cancel items from your order if they are exceeding our limits or our ability to supply.  You will be automatically refunded any items not supplied.”

The limits vary between the two chains depending on the items.

“Please respect these limits so as many Australians as possible can enjoy their favourite drink at the end of the day,” BWS said on its website.

The following limits apply to stores in Qld, NSW, Vic, SA, TAS, NT and ACT (separate restrictions apply in WA):

BWS

  • Beer – 4 cases
  • Wine – 12 bottles
  • Cask wine – 3 casks
  • Spirits – 4 bottles
  • Premix drinks – 4 cases
  • Cider – 4 cases

Dan Murphy’s

  • Beer – 3 cases
  • Wine – 18 bottles
  • Cask wine – 3 casks
  • Spirits – 6 bottles
  • Premix drinks – 3 cases
  • Cider – 3 cases

I wouldn’t drink that much in 2 years…if you have to go and get that much each time, you would be in no fit state to make rational decisions about social distancing.
