Residents in the booming northern Gold Coast suburb of Ormeau will have a brand new supermarket to do their grocery shopping, with the opening of Coles at Ormeau Village today!
The new market-style supermarket is set to open its doors to the public for the very first time at 8am, with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and speeches.
The store, located at the popular Ormeau Village Shopping Centre, will create 44 new local jobs on the Gold Coast, with more than 20 of the new recruits extra excited to begin their first job ever.

The supermarket is part of Coles’ investment of more than $120 million across the Gold Coast since 2016, including new and refurbished supermarkets at Australia Fair, Mudgeeraba, Southport Park, Coomera City Centre, Coomera Westfield, Pimpama and most recently, Palm Beach.
Coles Ormeau Village Store Manager Andrew Holmes says he is looking forward to officially opening the doors and welcoming the local community into the store.
“There has been an incredible amount of growth in infrastructure on the Gold Coast over the last few years, and we’re excited to be able to offer local shoppers yet another modern and convenient shopping destination with the opening of our new store at Ormeau. Our market-style fresh produce department will be a real focal point of the supermarket, offering customers a large
range of quality produce,” he said.
“We’re also delighted to contribute to the rapid economic growth in the region with the creation of so many new local jobs — many of which will see young team members entering the workforce for the first time.”
The celebrations are set to continue well into the weekend, with a two-day Food Festival on Saturday, 20 and Sunday, 21 July from 10am to 2pm, featuring cooking demonstrations by last year’s MKR champions Alex and Emily, and appearances by professional racing driver Jamie Whincup and DJ Cutloose.
