Nine injured in horror crash on Bruce Highway

NINE people have been hospitalised, including two who were taken by rescue helicopter, following a serious crash north of Bowen this morning.

Emergency services were called to the Bruce Highway at Gumlu around 6.45am following reports of a truck and minibus smash.

It’s understood both vehicles were travelling south on the Highway when the minibus began to turn right into Tondara Road and was struck by the truck.

Two people who were travelling in the minibus were airlifted to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver and six other passengers were taken to hospitals in Townsville with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say it’s believed the minibus passengers are international travellers, mostly aged in their 20s, who were on their way to work.

Miraculously, the truck driver managed to escape uninjured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
