Off-duty officer tries in vain to save crash victim

A MOTORBIKE rider has tragically died after being found lying unconscious on the side of a highway in Queensland’s north overnight.

An off-duty police officer found the 41-year-old’s body next to a motorbike on the Bruce Highway at Derragun around 10.40pm.

The off-duty officer desperately tried to revive the man by performing CPR, but it was too late.

Despite the officer’s desperate attempts, the man could not be saved and died at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
