One dead after van hits tree

A MAN has tragically died after the van he was driving left the road and hit a tree in southern NSW.

It happened on the Federal Highway at Yarra, 80 km northeast of Canberra, around 1.30pm on Friday.

Police said a white van left the highway and slammed into a tree around 400 metres south of Wollogorang Creek, near where the Federal Highway meets the Hume.

Sadly, the male driver died at the scene. He was the only person travelling in the van at the time.

Officers from The Hume Police District have established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
