One dead, two injured after ute ploughs into group of teens

A 19-YEAR-OLD man has allegedly driven his ute into a group of teenagers, killing one of them and injuring two others in Western Australia.

The teens were walking along Davis Road in Monjingup, near Esperance, when they were struck by a white Holden utility about 1.30am on Saturday.

Police said one of the victims, a 16-year-old girl, was critically injured and rushed to Esperance Regional Hospital where sadly, she later died.

Two of the young girl’s friends, a man and a woman both aged 18, were also hit but they escaped with only minor physical injuries.

It’s alleged the 19-year-old man behind the wheel of the car failed to stop and help the victims after mowing them down.

He has since been arrested and charged with multiple offences, including manslaughter, failing to stop and ensure assistance and failing to report an incident occasioning death or grievous bodily harm.

The 19-year-old Nulsen man was due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court later today.
