Next year’s State of Origin series looks promising for Queensland, with the announcement today that Justin Hodges, Petero Civoniceva, Johnathan Thurston and Billy Slater will join the Maroons coaching staff in 2019.
Coach Kevin Walters said the additions of the four former Maroons are part of a “fresh approach” to the side’s upcoming campaign.
It’s been revealed Hodges will work alongside Walters as an assistant coach, while Civoniceva will join as team manager.

Recently retired duo Thurston and Slater will be back in the Maroon jersey, but this time working in a coaching and mentoring capacity throughout different stages of the series.
The new additions mean Queensland stalwarts Trevor Gillmeister and Tony Spencer will sadly have to be let go from their roles.
“Trevor Gillmeister is a Queensland legend and Tony has worked tirelessly with the team for nearly 20 years as a trainer,” Walters said.
“They have been great servants, but I just felt that the time was right to get fresh faces in and around the team with the next generation of players coming through.”
