Outrage erupts online after girls wearing leggings banned from flight

Outrage has erupted online after three girls were reportedly banned from boarding a United Airlines flight for wearing leggings.

A US mother tweeted about the incident as it was unfolding at a boarding gate at Denver International Airport on Sunday.

“A @united gate agent isn’t letting girls in leggings get on flight from Denver to Minneapolis because spandex is not allowed?” the woman wrote.

“She’s forcing them to change or put dresses on over leggings or they can’t board.”

United Airlines responded to the woman’s tweets saying they have “the right to refuse transport for passengers who are barefoot or not properly clothed”.

They also said the rules were stricter for the girls because they were United “pass riders” which are either relatives or friends of United employees and receive discounted rates.

Their response didn’t stop people from inundating social media over the incident, with celebrities also weighing in on the debate.
