Overturned showbag stall sparks M1 delays

UPDATE: AN earlier accident on the M1 near Helensvale has thrown the afternoon commute into absolute chaos.

The accident happened around 2pm, but major delays are still being experienced with southbound traffic queuing back to Stapylton.

As a result, Gold Coast buses have also been delayed up to 40 minutes near the Coomera bus depot.

Service roads alongside the M1 are also heavily congested, however traffic is free flowing once you pass Smith Street.

Meanwhile, at 4.40pm, there were reports of another five car nose-to-tail in the southbound lanes near Dreamworld.

EARLIER: A SHOWBAG stall being towed by a ute on the M1 has overturned near Helensvale this afternoon.

The crash occurred in the southbound lanes near Exit 62 shortly after 2pm.

The “Warheads Showbags” trailer was thrown onto its side and was reported to be blocking three lanes.

Major delays are being experienced, with traffic queuing back to Upper Coomera.

Motorists have been advised to proceed with caution or make use of local service roads.
