“Last month I was pleased to take the Minister for Social Services to the Centre so he could see first-hand the great work being done, largely through Federal funding,” Mrs Andrews said.
Mrs Andrews said that 525 local residents received the benefit of financial counselling and advice from the Centre last year and welcomed the Budget announcement that Federal funding would be ongoing for community financial counselling services.
“As we all know, making sound money decisions is a core skill in today’s world and poor financial choices can have far-reaching consequences.”
“I am pleased that the Minister took the decision in the Budget to maintain Federal Funding for community financial counselling services, which was due to expire last financial year. It is evidence that the Coalition intrinsically understands the value of sound financial management.”
Mrs Andrews thanked the Financial Counselling team at the Palm Beach Neighbourhood Centre and wished them success with their latest project – a campaign to educate young people about the dangers of debt.
“I am glad I had the opportunity to highlight the work of the Palm Beach Neighbourhood Centre during MoneySmart Week. They provide a fantastic service for our community.”
