Foreign tourist sparks Brisbane bomb scare

UPDATE: A FOREIGN Tourist with limited English is said to be behind the security scare that shut down parts of Brisbane.

Part of the CBD was closed down after a suitcase was found inside a bank opposite Brisbane’s Supreme Court complex this morning.

Bank workers and people in surrounding areas were evacuated and a man was taken into custody for a short time.

But the tourist was soon released without charge after what police called a misunderstanding.

12.30PM UPDATE: PARTS of the Brisbane CBD are in lockdown as Police investigate a suspicious suitcase found abandoned in the National Australia Bank, opposite the Supreme Court. 

It’s understood the white suitcase has since been given the all clear, however part of George St remains closed.

A number of people from inside the bank and surrounding areas were evacuated as a precaution.

Local media reports suggest one person may have been arrested during the scare, but this is yet to be confirmed.

There’s no further information available at this stage.
