Parts of Ipswich evacuated after suspicious package found

UPDATE: Police have reopened parts of the Ipswich CBD, after an incident involving a suspicious bag being left unattended on Bell Street this morning.

Surrounding businesses were evacuated while special police attended the scene and rendered the item safe around 9.15am.

The affected streets have since reopened and police wish to thank members of the public for their patience while officers attended the scene.

EARLIER: POLICE are clearing parts of the Ipswich CBD after a suspicious package was found this morning.

Around 7.20am police were advised of a blue bag being left unattended at a bus stop on Bell Street.

Surrounding businesses have been evacuated and the street has been closed while police respond to the incident.

Police have shut down the areas of Limestone, Ellenborough and East streets and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
