Pedestrian airlifted to hospital after being hit by 4WD

A PEDESTRIAN has been airlifted to a hospital in Brisbane after being hit by a four-wheel-drive on the Sunshine Coast.

The 34-year-old man was walking with another man along Nambour Connection Road when tragedy struck on Friday night.

Police said the man stepped into the path of southbound traffic and was run over by a vehicle towing a trailer about 6.20pm.

It happened near the northern entry to James Low Bridge, police said.

The 34-year-old was badly injured and later flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital with serious head injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was not physically injured and stopped to render assistance.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
