People evacuated as two homes destroyed in early-morning blaze

Residents have run for their lives, as their homes went up in flames on the New South Wales north coast on Sunday morning.

They were evacuated by Police as fire crews battled the blaze, which had started in one home on Survey Street in Lennox Head around 1am.

It quickly spread to a neighbouring property, with both homes destroyed by the fierce blaze.

Four people were taken from the first house, with three others rescued from the second property.

One of the residents, a 28-year-old man, was taken to hospital for minor smoke inhalation.

Two police officers also suffered smoke inhalation, but didn’t require treatment.

Two other homes sustained smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is not known with Police appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
