Pet dog fighting for life after saving GC family from Brown snake

A ‘special’ family dog is fighting for life after being bitten by a large brown snake on the Gold Coast.

Leo, a purebred bull arab, was rushed to an emergency vet last Tuesday, where he remains, after he was bitten on the face by a 2m eastern brown snake in his Willowvale backyard.

The pet dog, who is a companion to the family’s young autistic son, is being hailed as a hero after attacking the reptile to protect Heath Brown, 12, and his little brother Zac, 9.

Mum Rebecca Brown spoke to 1029 Hot Tomato’s Flan & Emily Jade this morning, warning other families to look out for their pets and to remain aware of the symptoms of a snake bite.

You can listen to the full interview below:

Leo, who has been at the vet for six days, has since made a miraculous improvement, however still has a long road to recovery.

A gofundme page has been set up to help the Brown Family with vet bills, which have now climbed above a staggering $6000.

A Facebook page dedicated to the hero dog has also been established so the public can follow Leo’s journey to recovery.

Such a brave dog saving his family members from an eastern brown snake, praying that Leo pulls through and has a speedy recovery. I lost my cattle dog through a bite from a brown in 2014 and still miss her heaps.
