Police hunt driver after man left for dead in shocking hit-run

A MAN in his 70s has been run over and left for dead in a shocking hit-and-run in Sydney’s southwest.

The 77-year-old was crossing Burwood Road in Belmore when he was struck about 5am on Thursday.

The elderly man sustained serious injuries and was rushed to St George Hospital for treatment.

Police said the driver of the ute, believed to be a Toyota Hilux, failed to stop after hitting the man.

An operation is now underway to locate the vehicle involved or anyone who witnessed the incident.

Anyone with any information that could assist police is urged to come forward.
