Teen found unconscious hours after crash dies in Gold Coast hospital

UPDATE: A teenager who spent four hours trapped in the wreckage of a single vehicle crash in NSW before he was found has sadly died in hospital.

The 19-year-old was found by passing motorists about 2am this morning, unconscious and trapped inside a Mitsubishi FTO coupe that had crashed into a tree in the Clarence Valley four hours earlier.

He was flown to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

New South Wales police released a statement this afternoon, confirming the young man has since passed away.

EARLIER: A teenager has been flown to hospital in a critical condition after he was found unconscious and trapped in the wreckage of single-vehicle crash in the NSW Clarence Valley overnight.

Police say passing motorists found the 19-year-old male driver unresponsive and trapped inside a Mitsubishi FTO coupe that had crashed into a tree on Burragan Road at around 2am this morning.

The young driver was airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital in Queensland with critical injuries.

Officers believe the crash may have happened just after 10pm, when the man left a nearby camp site.
