Man ‘in undies with gun’ sparks Australia Day siege in Sydney

UPDATE: A six-hour siege in Sydney’s east has ended without incident after police arrested a man reportedly armed with a gun and wearing only his undies and a blue shirt.

Heavily armed officers were seen marching the handcuffed man out of a block of units on Portland Crescent at Maroubra just before 4.30pm AEDT.

He’d been holed up inside the housing commission apartment block for almost six hours.

Police are yet to confirm whether or not the man was armed with a gun, as initial reports had suggested.

According to media reports, a second man was also arrested at the scene.

EARLIER: Police have swarmed a suburban street at Maroubra in Sydney’s east where a man is reportedly holed up inside a house, armed with a gun.

According to the Seven Network, dozens of emergency personnel are at the scene in Portland Crescent.

It’s understood the drama began shortly after midday.

A resident told Ten Eyewitness News she saw a man point a gun at a neighbour, before aiming it at her.

The man is believed to be known to police.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area, with road closures in place.
