Elderly woman killed after scooter hit by car on Gold Coast road

UPDATE @ 1.00PM | AN elderly woman has died after being hit by a car while crossing the road on her motorised scooter at Coombabah.

She was struck along Hansford Road at 11.15am, suffering critical head injuries.

Six ambulance crews including the High Acuity Response Unit and Critical Care Paramedics rushed to the scene to treat the woman but she could not be saved.

The driver of the car involved was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Delays are expected in the area for some time as the Forensic Crash Unit investigates.

EARLIER @ 11.30AM | POLICE have been forced to shut down a Coombabah road after a serious accident involving a motorised scooter and car.

It happened on Hansford Road around 11.15am.

Six crews are scene treating a woman, who is in a critical condition with head injuries.

The High Acuity Response Unit and Critical Care Paramedics are on scene.

Police and firefighters are also in attendance.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area with delays expected for some time.

My husband has been going to the local councillors here in Coombabah regards the speeding and unsafe conditions in Hansford Rd for over a year…he was always treated with rude and arrogant responses by the councillors concerned and the local Police who said there is no problems in our 50klm street, and they said a survey was done which showed the average speed in Hansford Rd was 41 kms which is an absolute joke…never have I seen any car or bike do 41 kms…EVER…He cited numerous accidents and near misses that happen on a regular basis, and said that if… Read more »

i agree totally with you. I have only lived in this street 4 months and on two separate occasions on the same pedestrian crossing the lady was killed today, I was nearly ” cleaned up”. The first time by a lady with primary school children in the car who appeared to be texting, missed me only because I stopped halfway across as I saw she wasn’t slowing down and the second time by a tradesman in his ute who saw me on the crossing but put his foot down to get past me so he didn’t have to stop

Hi yes I agree ,it needs to be lights instead of the round about which would slow it down and also have a crossing .
Another thing there should be more lights Doreen drive it is so dim .heading toward trevor drive .

Well i have seen STUPIDITY In it worst form. i have for a long time been trying to get something done about the speeding in Hansford road coombabah, So the council lead buy councillor cameron caldwell have put up a smiley face 35 mtrs from a chicane under a tree shade not ever one fifth of the distance to the next chicane.where you need a jet car the exceed the 50 kl speed limit ,Stupidity at its best /,This council has to be full with stupid people meanwhile after the smiley face the cars all speed up, morons ///
