Power pole repairs causing major traffic delays

UPDATE @ 3.30PM: Energex crews are still working to fix a power pole at Broadbeach Waters with around a hundred homes and businesses still without power.

A car smashed into the pole on Bermuda St earlier today, which at one stage knocked power out to more than 1100 customers.

The repair effort is now causing major traffic dramas in the area.

Crews have had to block two southbound lanes on Bermuda St with delays back to Bundall.

That’s also causing dramas on Salerno St and Ashmore Rd.

Energex says it’s working as quickly as possible to finish the repair work.

EARLIER @ 12.30pm: More than 1100 homes and businesses are currently without power on the Gold Coast.

Energex is currently undertaking emergency repairs to restore power to customers in Bundall, Benowa and Broadbeach Waters.

533 homes and businesses are blacked out in Bundall, including on Ashmore Rd and Bundall Rd.

In Benowa, there is currently 224 customers affected.

362 customers are without power in Broadbeach Waters, with streets including Bermuda St and Monaco St being impacted.

Energex says it is working quickly to bring customers back online but is unable to say exactly when power will be restored.
