Power restored to Gold Coast homes following mass blackout

UPDATE @ 9.00 AM | POWER has now been restored to more than 1400 homes and businesses following a mass outage on the Gold Coast this morning.

The blackout hit around 7.00am, with 787 properties in Paradise Point and 618 homes in Hollywell affected.

It came after a night of wild storms, which saw the coast lashed with ferocious winds, torrential rain and copious amounts of hail.

EARLIER @ 7.00 AM | MORE than 1400 homes and businesses have lost power on the Gold Coast following a night of wild storms.

The blackout has affected 787 properties in Paradise Point, while 618 homes in Hollywell are also in darkness.

Just three buildings in Runaway Bay are affected.

It’s not yet known exactly what has sparked the outage, however an Energex spokesperson says it’s understood a powerline may be down in the area.

Energex crews say “emergency repairs” are currently in progress.
