QLD man charged with murder of Melbourne man found in wheelie bin

A Queensland man has been charged with the murder of a man whose remains were found in a wheelie bin at a Melbourne storage facility 17 years after he was reported missing.

Victorian police with the help of Queensland detectives raided a 62-year-old man’s home at the Sunshine Coast on Thursday morning, before arresting and charging him with the murder of John Christianos.

Mr Christianos, 40, was reported missing in June 2001 and his disappearance was treated as suspicious by police at the time.

On July 13 this year, workers discovered the remains of Mr Christianos while they were cleaning out a storage unit at Oakleigh South.

The 62-year-old man will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today for an extradition hearing.
