WASHINGTON, April 17 (UPI) — Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, condemned North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Thursday and called Kim’s regime the world’s worst violator of human rights.
South Korean news agency Yonhap reported Congressman Royce denounced Pyongyang’s rights record and said the issue of rights violations resulting from Kim Jong Un’s rule must continue to be addressed at the U.N.

Royce’s comments came during a private meeting with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington.
The U.S. representative said he had urged Ban and the U.N. in the past to find a solution to the human rights problem in North Korea, a move that he said contributed to the creation of a U.N. Commission of Inquiry on human rights in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in March 2013.
