Gold Coast residents are being urged to prepare for the upcoming storm season, with new data revealing the coast suburbs worst affected by wild weather last year.
Figures from Suncorp Insurance show Jimboomba, Tamborine, Burleigh Waters, Upper Coomera and Helensvale were hit the hardest, with 1,416 storm-related claims last storm season (October – February).
With temperatures starting to rise across the Sunshine State, residents are being warned not to fall into a ‘false sense of security’ and to start preparing their homes now.

“Now is the time for people to turn their attention to how they can protect their homes, family and neighbourhood for these weather events in the months ahead,” Suncorp spokesperson Joshua Cooney said.
“Past events have proven that early preparation can make a big difference.
“Simple activities like removing debris from around the yard, cleaning gutters and trimming any low-hanging branches can help reduce possible damage during a storm.”
The statistics showed a large portion of the 2017-18 storm season claims were caused by wind or rain.
