Gardner will be replacing Lisa Wilkinson, who announced her departure from the show in October after failing to reach a deal on a new contract.

Wilkinson, who will be joining Network 10 from next year, was one of the first people to congratulate Georgie on the role.

Ms Gardner told NINE she was “deeply honoured and grateful” to be returning after three years away from the breakfast program.
