Parents of students at a Brisbane school have been urged to keep their kids at home following an ‘extraordinary’ flu outbreak.
Middle Park State School sent out a health alert on Thursday after a large number of staff and students fell ill.
“We have an extraordinary outbreak of Influenza A & B and parents should keep students home if they have any signs or symptoms of flu,” the school said in a statement.

A spokesperson for the Department of Education confirmed the school was doing everything possible to manage the situation.
“Queensland state schools treat the health and welfare of students and staff as their number one priority,” the Department said.
“The school is taking additional preventative and precautionary measures to assist in managing this situation and will conduct additional hygienic cleaning of school premises over the coming days.”
Students and staff concerned about their health are being urged to see their GP, contact their nearest public health unit, or call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84).
