Police have launched a ground and air search following concerns a swimmer disappeared underwater at Cabarita Beach, south of Tweed Heads, on Sunday.
Emergency services received a call around 4.30pm of reports of a person raising their arms before going under, about 200 metres off shore.
Officers from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command attended and commenced a search for the person, assisted by Surf Lifesaver and Westpac Life Saver helicopter.

A ground search found no personal belongings and at this time no people have been reported missing.
The search was suspended at 7.10pm due to fading light conditions and is back underway this morning.
