UPDATE: THE MAN accused of bashing a security guard on the light rail has fronted court on Monday.
25-year-old Joel Broughton was apparently heavily intoxicated when he was asked to leave the tram at the Gold Coast University Hospital stop early on Saturday morning.
Police claim Broughton refused and when asked again launched a vicious attack on the 61-year-old guard.

He allegedly assaulted him, forcing him to the ground.
It’s further alleged he continued to assault him on the ground before removing his security tag and running off.
The guard suffered injuries to his head and face and was treated in Hospital.
Broughton was charged with serious assault of a person aged 60 or over and was granted bail to reappear February 3.
He’s also been ordered to stay away from the victim and to not use public transport.
EARLIER: A MAN will front Southport Court on Monday after allegedly attacking a 55-year-old security guard on the light rail.
The 25-year-old Southport man was charged on Sunday after unleashing an unprovoked attack on the guard at the Gold Coast University Hospital station that morning.
He was charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, stealing and failure to appear in accordance with undertaking and will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
It’s alleged the guard was punched to the ground by a 25-year-old Southport man who had been instructed to leave the tram.
It’s further alleged the enraged passenger continued his vicious assault on the security guard while he lay defenseless on the ground, before removing his security identification and fleeing on foot.
He was arrested a short time later and charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, stealing and failure to appear in accordance with undertaking.
The guard sustained non-life threatening head and face injuries and was treated at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
