Severe thunderstorm warning issued for northern NSW

A SEVERE thunderstorm warning has just been issued for people in the Mid North Coast, North West Slopes and Plains and parts of Hunter and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts.

The Bureau of Meteorology says the severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours.

Locations which may be affected include Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Armidale, Tamworth, Gunnedah, Moree, Narrabri, Mungindi, Coonabarabran, Sawtell and Dorrigo.

The State Emergency Service says people should move their cars undercover or away from trees and to secure or put away loose items around the house, yard and balcony.

For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
