QUEENSLAND indie pop band Sheppard has just been announced as the headline act for Celebrate Gold Coast.
The free event, to be held on Sunday 28 September from 7am to 1pm at Queen Elizabeth Park, Coolangatta, is a celebration of everything quintessentially Gold Coast – our culture, lifestyle, food and sense of fun.
Sheppard, a six-piece band including three siblings, is the first independent act to hit the top of the ARIA singles chart in a decade. The group’s second single, Geronimo, achieved platinum status in April 2014.

Mayor Tom Tate said he was thrilled Sheppard would be performing at the second annual Celebrate Gold Coast event.
“Given the popularity of Sheppard around the country, I know thousands of young Gold Coasters will be putting 28 September in their diaries now,” he said.
“We’re fully committed to supporting our vibrant live music scene. Since 2004, the City, in partnership with Arts Queensland, has supported local contemporary music through its A-Venue program, which is now known as Soundcheck.”
Sheppard has a Facebook following of more than 41,000 fans and is gaining a strong international following, recently performing at London’s V Festival.
Cr Tate said the theme of this year’s Celebrate Gold Coast was our enviable beach lifestyle.
“We invite you to slap on some sunscreen, slip off your shoes and immerse yourself in a wide range of surf and sand themed activities, like sand sculpting, beach volleyball or cricket and barbecue cookery.
“Other activities include surfboard shaping, BMX riding and skateboarding demonstrations, Kombi and surfboard displays, beach care information and a range of delicious food, including fresh organic produce.”
Parking will be available in Marine Parade and Griffith Street.
