Real-time traffic congestion maps are in the works and nearly ready for release for Brisbane residents with smart phones.
It is currently being developed by the Queensland University of Technology and the Brisbane City Council using traffic data to be collected instantly and updated online.
The new technology will be a quicker version of what was used to put together the Corridor Performance Report which went public yesterday, by identifying the major congestion hot spots.

The Corridor Performance Report was the first report into congestion for Brisbane to be published every six months.
The aim is to have the new program up and running on smart phones within 12 months.
