CONSTRUCTION on an upgraded Smith Street Motorway/Olsen Avenue interchange will start next Monday, resulting in the closure of the westbound off ramp.
The upgrade includes the construction of a new free-flowing loop for southbound motorists heading west from Olsen Avenue to Smith Street – removing the need to stop at traffic signals on Olsen Avenue.
To complete these works, the westbound off ramp from the Smith Street Motorway to Olsen Avenue will be closed from Monday, August 4 until March 2015 so upgrade works can be safely undertaken.

Olsen Avenue between Crestwood Drive and Parklands Drive will also be reduced intermittently to one lane in both directions.
TMR is closing these lanes due to size and safety. The loop will take up some of the traffic off ramp space and major construction work would be too close to traffic lanes.
During the closure, motorists should plan their journey and allow additional travel time.
The upgrade is Phase C of the Queensland Government’s $119 million road network upgrades around the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.
The loop will help ease congestion at the interchange – as well as improving safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
The works will also result in Olsen Avenue becoming three lanes in both directions between the interchange and Crestwood Drive.
