Son charged with murder, accused of stabbing father to death at family home

A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed his father to death in a frenzied attack at the family home near Newcastle overnight.

The young man’s 52-year-old father was found bleeding out from multiple stab wounds in the driveway of a neighbour’s house on Delray Court at Maryland just after 9pm.

Despite the desperate attempts of two nurses who live in the street and NSW Ambulance paramedics to save the man, he could not be revived and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

According to witness reports, the father and son had become embroiled in a heated shouting match outside the family home before it turned physical.

It’s understood the 52-year-old sustained multiple stab wounds to his chest, stomach and back.

The police dog squad was called in to help track down the victim’s son who fled the scene after the attack.

He was allegedly found a short time later, hiding out in a nearby reserve.

The 21-year-old was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station where he was later charged with murder.

The man was refused bail and due to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Thursday.
