SAM STOSUR’S campaign to defend her Japan Women’s Open title is off to a good start, taking out her first round clash.
The Gold Coaster had a hard-fought victory over Misa Eguchi 6-4 7-5.
The top-seeded Australian took 90 minutes to take down the 127th ranked Eguchi.

Stosur now moves on to the second round where she’ll face compatriot Jarmila Gajdosova.
Gajdosova also saw off a Japanese opponent, Miharu Imanishi, 6-4 6-0 in her first round clash.
