Surfer dies despite desperate attempts by witnesses to save him

A MAN has died after he was pulled from the surf at Sydney’s Northern Beaches this morning.

Emergency services were called to South Avalon Headland at Avalon Beach, about 8.55am, after reports a surfer was in distress.

Witnesses pulled the man from the water and immediately began doing CPR until paramedics arrived. Despite desperate attempts to save the man, he died at the scene.

Police say the surfer is yet to be formally identified.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command are making inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
